Adventures in Home Ownership

I'm sorry for the delay on blog posts! I've been experiencing some issues with my my web host and am working on getting that all together. To make up for it, I'll try to get two blog posts up this weekend rather than my typical one.

Keith and I were out of town for the holidays for almost two weeks on an amazing road trip to Wisconsin, Colorado and New Mexico and I'm planning a few posts with tons of photos to recap that soon! In the meantime, I thought I'd share some exciting updates, and not so fun ones too, on the sunroom and current state of our house. In December I shared updates and progress photos one month into the work, but the contractors went into over-drive before we left on holiday and made significant progress. As I mentioned in my last sunroom update, we wound up having to entirely replace the floor in the sunroom. Here were the two ceramic wood plank options we narrowed it down to a week before the holidays:

We chose the option on the right since it was similar in color to the rest of our house's wood planks and I liked the grainy-wood look of that ceramic tile. Since we were leaving for two weeks, the contractors went into overdrive the week before we left to get as much done as they could. They pulled up the floor and laid the new ceramic wood tiles, finished painting the doors, trim and baseboards and much more. Here are some progress photos of our sunroom over the week before Christmas.

By the time we left for our two-week trip, the trim, baseboards and doors had all been painted, the floor laid and grout set and all the doors were back on their hinges. Here is a comparison shot of our sunroom from when we first bought our house to the day we left on vacation three weeks ago.

The contractors have spent the past week finishing up the room which includes sealing the floors, scraping paint off glass, removing all the tape, putting back up the rest of the trim and baseboards, and reinstalling thresholds. Earlier this week when I got home from work, it looked like this and I did a little happy dance for how far the space has come.

The painter is still in the space today finishing up a few touch-ups and re-hanging our bamboo blinds. And then it is time to get this space gym ready! Keith and I bought a treadmill several weeks back and I am ready to get the large box out of our living room and into the sunroom. I've been brainstorming ideas for converting the space into a home gym and here are a few inspirational photos.

In the next few months I'll be shopping for weight benches, dumbbells and other gym items to get this space together. This isn't just a new years resolution space though we would both certainly like to spend more time on weight lifting to balance all the running we do. I have been starting back up my runs after five weeks of being out, but I'll share more on that later.

In the meantime, until I get all of the photos and stories together and get a trip recap post up, I thought I'd share this photo of our favorite hotel from the trip just to give you an idea of what you can expect. We stayed at The Inn of the Governors in Santa Fe and it was lovely space. It made me want a ranch home so I can decorate it like this.
